Helping the Body Achieve BALANCE with Biofeedback
Gina H. Jones, Certified Biofeedback Specialist and Iridologist

Biofeedback is a therapeutic technique, established through scientific measures, that enables people to improve their health by using signals from their own bodies. This non-invasive technique measures bodily functions such as breathing, blood pressure, skin temperature and muscle tension. With the use of electronic instrumentation, unconscious physiological activities and habitual patterns are monitored and relayed back to the patient. When the electrical signal is relayed back to the body, the body recognizes the change that needs to be made to achieve balance and begins to heal.

Biofeedback and Stress
Stress is the underlying cause of most illness. It is important to teach ourselves how to effectively deal with stress so that it does not negatively affect our health over time.

There are essentially three phases to stress:
1 - Stressors - environmental, interpersonal, familial, or job-related events - that cause us to react.
2 - Our reactions to stressors - perceived as positive or negative - affect our physiology.
3 - Changes in our physiology over time - as our body reacts to stressors - that can lead to chronic habits and ultimately, pain.

If we don’t immediately notice symptoms as we encounter stress, our response remains undetected and can become a dysfunctional habit, which could create long-term health problems.

Active Participation
Healing the body requires active participation. Changing behavior is a necessary step in the healing process. A biofeedback device and biofeedback therapist can help the client become aware of behaviors that may be the root of a health problem or circumstances that trigger symptoms. However, neither the device nor the therapist can diagnose or cure disease. When the device sends signals to initiate balancing the energy within the body, the client’s body actually begins to balance those signals and starts the healing process. It is also necessary for the body to have adequate vitamins and minerals and to practice relaxation breathing techniques, get adequate exercise and properly hydrate the body.

Biofeedback Applications
When the body is under stress, the imbalance can manifest into an illness. Some of these stresses can appear as:

Chronic tension headaches Anxiety
Migraines Incontinence
Hypertension Bruxism (teeth grinding)
ADD/ADHD TMJ (if due to muscular stress)
Addictions (drug and alcohol) Asthma
Arthritis Epilepsy/seizure disorders

Other areas where successes have been noted are: depression, allergies, digestive disorders, pain, weight issues, fatigue and insomnia.

Biofeedback Devices
A biofeedback device is any device that feeds back information from the body. Two of the simplest, most common biofeedback devices are the thermometer and the weight scale. There are many more complicated devices that are used by physical therapists, dentists, doctors, psychologists, and specialists in various other fields to help individuals cope with pain.

One of the most recent and technologically advanced biofeedback devices uses a tri-vector system, which measures voltage, amperage, and resistance. This is one of the first systems that can not only read the body, but can send energy back to the body to begin the healing process.

During testing, the device resonates with thousands of tissues, organs, nutrients, toxins and allergens for 1/100th of a second and records the degree to which the body reacts. It actually scans the body, like a virus scan on a computer. The system measures the body’s frequencies and then feeds back its own frequencies to redress or neutralize destructive wave patterns.

Who Can Benefit?
Anyone who encounters stress can benefit from this form of biofeedback. It is beneficial for people and animals of all ages, including the unborn fetus. We are all creatures who prefer balance. We all encounter stress that tries to disrupt this balance on a daily basis. So, EVERYONE can benefit from stress management with biofeedback.

What do people have to say after biofeedback?

~ “I Have lost 5 pounds since last session” (Female, Age 71)
~ “It has been a week and I feel quietly energized and free of upsets. I would recommend this to everyone!” (Female, RN, Age 53)
