Remission Even Better, "Spontaneous Remission!"
By Daniela Diesel, ND

Aren't those the words we pray for, while believing deep down they might be reserved for only a few other lucky souls? We cling to the books that give hope. We hear stories about survivors, cancer victims who miraculously won the battle. Yet in resignation and disbelief, we think, "Lucky for them, though I don't think I will be so fortunate …." Just as we thought cancer was a fierce beast only other people had to wrestle with, we might have thought that remission wouldn't apply to us either. But consider the power of "if." If the odds of the first part sought us out, isn't it just as likely that the odds of the second part will apply to us as well?

I want to tell you my story, which will illustrate that you don't have to wait for miracles to happen to you. Sheer desire and a sense of participation in your own healing is the biggest part of the equation as you look for hope and maybe even solutions.

In the fall of 2000, I received the dreaded diagnosis perceived by the general public as synonymous with death. The frightening part was that even in the eyes of the doctors uttering those dismal words there was not a glimmer of hope. The common perception was that it was just a matter of time before those aberrant cells rapidly multiplying within my body would win. The standard protocol of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy were offered as the only means of possible survival. Statistical evidence seemed to point in the direction of death despite all of the incredible advances and amazing feats made in today's medicine. Once the word "metastasized" enters the arena, most bets are off. You might feel "lucky" that you were offered the "hope" of being chosen as a candidate for a clinical trial. A never-ending array of chemotherapy cocktails gets mixed up in all sorts of new combinations bringing you to the brink of death in the attempt to save your life.

Most of that equation did not make sense to me. I wanted to try something that would make me feel better, not worse. The idea of making my body strong appealed to me a whole lot more than the concept of fighting evil with evil.

Being open and receptive to non-traditional, holistic ways to healing cancer, I stumbled across an enormous variety of approaches. Weeding through all of this information became a challenging task in itself. In the process I decided to follow my long time dream of studying to become a Naturopathic Doctor, which would also allow me to be my own first human guinea pig.

Macrobiotic diet, Reiki, hypnosis, meditation, soul searching, anti-cancer diets, yoga, chi gung, vitamins, vacation, the latest anti-cancer supplements and positive thinking all helped, I guess. But the one thing that really pulled me through was my friend Ralph, an 83-year-old man, who cured himself of cancer 30 years ago. When he was diagnosed as terminally ill, he pursued his dream and went on a trip around the world. He befriended local bush people in the rainforest. The extremely potent herbal concoctions they gave him pulled him through. After he came back to the U.S. he invested much time and money in his own research laboratories and now has something that I would simply call "the herbal cure for cancer."

Trusting him and my instincts, I decided to follow in his footsteps. After taking these formulas for a few weeks, I watched my tumors swell up to many times their original size. Obviously this was making me more than a little nervous. But as he predicted, after about 10 to 12 weeks the tumors vanished. There was nothing to cut out anymore. Knowing that these herbs were somehow able to seek out the cancer cells and destroy even the visible malignancies, I knew that the entire cancer-producing mechanism in my body had been interrupted. And I knew also - as sure as I live now - that new cancer cells do not like living in the environment my body provides. They retreated without me losing any hair, body parts or dignity.

Since this all happened "my story" has attracted a lot of disillusioned people. I have spent many hours on the phone telling bits and pieces of my journey and responding to their desperate searches for a ray of hope. Some people are thrilled and follow their hearts; others have gone through too much suffering to believe it could be this simple. Yet the ones who followed their intuition and took charge by following the suggested protocol of these herbs are well.

You know that you - not your doctors, insurance companies or relatives - are the one who needs to make all decisions concerning you and your life. Even though I could go on for pages and pages because my enthusiasm and belief/knowing is so great, I will leave you with this: Nobody can heal you. You have to take responsibility for yourself. No matter how weak you feel and no matter how great your suffering has been up until now, you're not dead yet. If you want to live, you will!

Feel free to contact me if this article gave you a renewed sense of hope. But keep in mind that the cure is only magic if you apply the tools to get you there.
